Tailored Lessons and Field Trips for School Groups

The Land Lab staff prides itself in working with interested educators to tailor a program, field trip, lesson or activity to your students' needs. By following a standards-based process in deciding what kind of lesson to construct, we can ensure that your activity will fulfill organizational objectives while providing a one-of-a-kind experiential education opportunity.

If you are interested in bringing your group out to the Lab for an activity, or you are just looking for ways to integrate environmental education into your curriculum, we would be glad to assist you. Visit our Teacher Page for other information.

Classroom Outreach

Need some assistance with your science curriculum or science kit in YOUR classroom? Jim or Cameron are often available to come into your classroom to help or teach science or teambuilding activities.

Low Ropes Course

A large portion of the 13 acres of land surrounding the facility contains different elements of a low-ropes course, installed by the Maine Conservation Corps in 1999. The elements are based on teambuilding curriculum created by Project Adventure. Over 16 elements and initiatives are available to help provide your students or group the chance to work together and instil
l teambuilding and cooperation values in a natural setting. Staff is trained in facilitation and course elements. Click here for the Low Ropes Page.

Professional Development

The Land Lab provides environment-related workshops and trainings for educators throughout Maine. The Land Lab has hosted a variety of workshops to provide training in environmental and educational topics such as GLOBE, Project Learning Tree, the Maine Environmental Education Associaton and Project Wet. Future plans include expanding on the existing programs, and providing new workshops, such as teacher training in technology integration into the classroom.

Summer Camp Program

Every summer the Land Lab provides an environmental education program that strives to provide children with a dynamic, comfortable and affirming space in which to cultivate a sense of wonder, a better understanding of the environment and their place within it, a respect for communities both human and natural, and a strong sense of self confidence and empowerment. These goals are achieved by utilizing an integrated curriculum that incorporates multiple learning styles, and by encouraging teamwork, imagination and creativity among the campers. Click here for the Summer Program Page.
