Each Winter and Spring, the Land Lab gets Atlantic Salmon Eggs from the Green Lake National Fish Hatchery in Ellsworth. The eggs arrive in a very cold cooler, and we transfer them to our tank to live with us until May. In June we will release them into the Little River in Lisbon, a tributary of the Androscoggin River. One day, we hope that the adult salmon will come back to this river to begin their life cycle again!
This year, the Land Lab is working with 3rd Grade Enrichment Students from all 6 Auburn Elementary Schools to help raise Atlantic Salmon.

The silver color under the salmon is water droplets on the bottom of the tank. Because the water in the tank is so cold, water vapor from the air condenses on the outside of the tank. Sometimes this makes it difficult to see the salmon in the tank at all. Check back later!
